Atg11

Atg11 is considered to be the primary adaptor, linking different kinds of selective autophagy to the general autophagy machinery. The mechanism of function seems to be the binding of Atg11 to target-localized adaptor-proteins, which are distinctively switchable e.g. via phosphorylation in response to upstream signals. This system allows the cell, to selectively command certain groups of cellular components to the vacuole for degradation, depending on environmental conditions or cellular health status.
